New Year, New Ticket Resolutions for Students

It's the start of a brand new year, fellow students. With a new year come new ideas about going out for entertainment, especially in this Big Apple. But paying a lot (say $100-$150) to see a Broadway or Off-Broadway show can give you a tough loss in your bank account (if you have one). If you want to see a show without spending too much, these two discount ticket programs from two of New York's most prestigious theatre companies can help you do that.

-Hiptix (Roundabout Theatre Company) - A low-price ticket program to see Roundabout Theatre's productions for people ages 18 through 35 years old. It's free to sign up. All tickets in this program for Roundabout's shows are $25 (plus $2 faculty fee). You can even get two tickets with your membership and your guest can be any age (A nice idea whether to socialize with a student or going with a friend or family member). You can buy the tickets though online (roundabouttheatre.org, put in promotion code Hiptix), phone (212-719-1300, let them know you're booking Hiptix tickets) or at the box offices of any of the four Roundabout theatres in Manhattan listed below (mention that you're a Hiptix member):

-American Airlines Theatre-227 West 42nd Street (between 7th and 8th Avenue)
-Studio 54-254 West 54th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue)
-The Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre-111 West 46th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues)
-Stephen Sondheim Theatre-124 West 43th Street (between 6th Avenue and Broadway)

It's free to sign up for Hiptix. To join and learn more about Hiptix, go to http://www.roundabouttheatre.org/Shows-Events/HipTix.aspx.

-LincTix (Lincoln Center Theatre) - A discount ticket program for people ages 21 through 35 years old to see Lincoln Center's productions (such as The King and I) at a more reasonable price. All tickets in this program for LCT's shows are just $32. Tickets for LincTix members can be purchased both online (go to www.lct.org, click on LincTix to sign up) or at the box office of the Vivian Beaumont and Mitzi E. Newhouse theatres located on the Lincoln Center facilities on West 65th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue in Manhattan. LincTix tickets won't be purchased on the phone. When you sign up for the program, it will give you a six-digit member ID that is required while purchasing and picking up your ticket. A proof of identity and age (ex: Non-Driver ID) is also required as well when you receive the ticket in person at the box office. It's free to sign up for LincTix, too. It’s a great idea for senior students. To join and learn more about LincTix, go to http://www.lct.org/linctix/.

Talk to your parents about these two theater ticket programs before signing up and making plans. These ticket ideas may help you to become a better theatergoer.
